Ikebana and us

23rd and 24th Feb 2018 The Sogetsu Study Group Chennai had its annual exhiition at Focus Art Gallery in Egmore.  It was our first time exhibiting in this gallery, and members enjoyed the aesthetic ambience.  Our exhibition pictures are here. "Welcome" - by Seethalakshmi at the Lalit Kala Hall The weeklong festival of Japan was inaugurated by Minagawa san and Seetha's lovely Indo-Japanese Ikebana was there to welcome us all! (Tropical material, Japanese Aesthetics!) We will be putting up another 35 or so creations, so here's looking forward to the weekend! There will also be three demonstrations on the 26th. At 11 am, 3 pm and 6 pm!

Auroville -the exhibition hall At Auroville - For 5 Days ay "Hall Of Light" in CREATIVITY. Its on! Until February 26th, 9 am to 12:30 and 2-5:30pm. A group of us from Chennai visited, and what a lovely day it was! Inspiring Ikebana, Poetic pottery And loads of laughter, camaraderie and junk food! Auroville - I think this was by Suzie More pictures will follow. At Chennai - At Lalit Kala Akademi “Ikebana In Chennai”. The exhibition will be open from February 26th. There will be a small demonstration in the morning at 11 am by Sensei Molly and Sensei Meenu at 11 am. There will be a formal inauguration by renowned Bharatanatyam artiste & choreographer Padma Bhushan Alarmel Valli on Friday, 26th February 2010 at 5.30 p.m. at Lalit Kala Akademi, #4, Greams Road, Chennai – 600 006. The exhibition will remain open on 27th & 28th February 2010 from 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m

Chennai Sogetsu Ikebana 09 Originally uploaded by ambikach2002 Going through the Flickr gallery, I was tempted to do a post highlighting the large works by Sensei Malathi, over these last few years! This was the large arrangement from the 2009 exhibition, where she said she drew inspiration from the pyramids of Egypt. For me however, they reminded me of a Japanese garden, with the swept stones, the spare branches with their strong lines, and the chrysanthemums, so ceremonial and sacred to the Japanese. Anyway, here's the article: CHENNAI: It was a riot of colour at the hall, which played host to a variety of flowers from the simple Bougainville flower to the exotic Ooty varieties, dry wood and bamboo. The students experimented with containers in which the flower/foliage arrangements were made: ceramic vases, glass dishes, an antique spice box and a colourfully painted circular lunch-box. A three-day Ikebana exhibition, organised by the Tamil Nadu centre of the ABK-AOTS Dosokai at Lalit Kala Akademi here, provides a glimpse of the Japanese art form of arranging flowers. I was desperately looking for Flowering plants that grow on the edges of standing water and I found these pictures :) All of them grow close to water bodies - lakes, ponds etc. I wish i got some of these for the exhibition for my arrangements.
