Freestyle for December

10th December 2019

13 members of the Study Group gathered at ABK AOTS Dosokai hall for our December meting and workshop.

Some operational matters regarding our planned January exhibition at Cholamandal were initially discussed.

Sensei Padma and Sensei Meenakshi then created freestyle compositions, to get our creative juices flowing for the new year!

Sensei Padma began with a very Sogetsu shape of the harvest moon, in a bright red colour, quite suitable for the Christmas season.

She used palm leaves, both under the vase as a base, as well as within the vase to emphasise the space, variegated dressina leaves with a lovely tinge of red to complement the vase, and the smaller strelitzia flowers.

Sensei Meenakshi the began her interpretation, displaying her interesting moribana container which was black on the outside but with a brilliant blue inner surface.  She wished to display the inner surface as well.

She used driftwood that she has newly acquired, with a beautiful gnarled look.  To balance its mass, she used the tall and strong lines of the Musa - which we learnt is a hybrid between the Ginger Lily and the bird of paradise!  Lovely Pandanus swirls softened the lines, while anthuriums and limoneum worked as jushis, to complete the arrangement.

Members then discussed and practised their workshop themes.

A few members also did some spontaneous free expressions.

Chitra Rajan's garden materials created a lovely nagiere composition

Sensei Prerana also created a Nagiere arrangement

Sensei Trishala complemented  a beautiful glass vase with a composition in green
Members had some tasty refreshments courtesy Chitra and Chelvi.

We meet next in the new year with our exhibition.
